Teknika brings an organized platform for blood donor and recipient with Blood 24/7

Despite all the awareness, getting the required blood in terms of medical emergency has always been an ongoing problem across the nation. We often hear people complaining of deaths due to non-availability of blood at the right time, more so when the dengue season strikes the demand for blood as well as blood platelets rises tremendously, and sadly the supply of blood remains short. Few people are now posting it in social networking sites and also through SMSs in times of need for the blood at hospitals. Hence, realizing the need to have an organized platform for blood donor and recipient, a group of techies from Teknika, an innovative technology provider based in Bengaluru have made use of the technology to connect the donor and recipient quickly with their android mobile application ‘Blood 24/7’.

Its been five months with the launch of ‘Blood 24/7’ and there has already been over 250 downloads and over 35 requests of which most of them have found the donor in the platform. “We did over three months of rigorous testing before we actually launched and we have been getting good response. We are looking at investment option and some Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to further scale the project” said, Mr Ramsy Pinto, CEO, Teknika and a former employee of IBM.

Through this app, which is available on Google Playstore, users can seek location based analytics to find a donor closest to the hospital location, request for platelet donations, connect to the donor through SMSs, phone call or the mobile app itself. Meanwhile, blood banks can also use this tool to request for blood types that are rare and critical and get more people into a blood donation camp. The app can also educate common people about blood donations, list of dos and donts, etc, and track donors.

How the app works?

Blood 24/7, providing an organized platform for blood donor and recipient, helps users send a request for the required blood group at any time blood is required. On sending a request all users registered with ‘Blood 24/7’ receive a notification of the requirement of blood. Any user interested in donating, will send a reply via this mobile app. Thus there is an instant connect between the donors and the patient in need of blood. Blood 24/7 is an attempt to bridge the gap between donor and recipient. Further, this mobile app gives the user options to contact with the interested donors using his/her contact number and email. Apart from creating an awareness on blood donation, there are very useful tips around blood donation.
