Director (HR) of BEL conferred distinguished fellow of Institute of Directors

Mr M L Shanmukh, Director (Human Resources) of Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), a Navratna Defence PSU, has been conferred the ‘Distinguished Fellowship’ of the Institute of Directors (IOD) for the year 2015-16. Mr M L Shanmukh received the Certificate of Distinguished Fellowship from Justice M N Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India, at the Silver Jubilee function of the Institute of Directors held at Bengaluru on August 10, 2015. Dr K Radhakrishnan, former ISRO Chairman, was present.

Mr Shanmukh has been Director (HR) at BEL since 2004. Before his elevation to the Board of Directors of BEL, he worked with leading companies like CONCOR (Container Corporation of India, Ministry of Railways) and KELTRON (Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd). He has travelled widely in the course of his work and has wide experience in the field of Human Resources.

As an acknowledgement of the various innovative initiatives he spearheaded, Mr Shanmukh was conferred with the Public Relations Council of India’s Chanakya Award in 2009. The World HRD Congress recognised him as one of the most powerful HR professionals of India in 2010. He has also won the ‘Leadership and Inspiration Award’ of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry in February 2012. In addition to this, he has been awarded by the Institute of Public Enterprises for his efforts in implementing innovative and best practices in the field of HR in February 2012. He has won the IPE Asia Pacific HRM Congress Award in September 2013 as one the most talented HR leaders in PSUs.

As a socially responsible corporate citizen, Mr Shanmukh has played a vital role in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by giving constant encouragement for launching CSR projects at BEL.Under his able leadership, BEL has won the Gold Trophy of “SCOPE Meritorious Award for Best Practices in Human Resources Management”. He has also been conferred with ‘Life Time Achievement’ award by the Institute of HRD during November 2014.
