Portea Shows the Road for Geriatric Care

With rising number of ageing population in the country geriatric care has been one of the major cause of concern. Majority of the families going nuclear in urban areas along with working couples becoming a norm in every family, getting a qualified help to look after the sick parents at home has been a challenge. When this exact problem befell on one of their relative, a trigger rang in the mind of Bengaluru based couple K Ganesh and Meena Ganesh who went on and founded Portea in 2013.

Portea, provides hospital-quality healthcare at the comfort of one’s home. Doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists are provided for home visits. Added to it, Portea also facilitates lab tests at home and medical equipment rentals in order to make health care more accessible for our patients.

Initially when Portea began its journey in June 2013 there were less than 50 customers across Bengaluru and Delhi NCR, but today Portea has over 60,000 visits to patients’ homes each month and has a team of over 3,500, operating  across India and Malaysia. Portea is currently operational in Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Baroda, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Goa, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, NCR, Pune, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and also Malaysia.

Meanwhile, in order to ease out work and make it a win-win scenario for both parties Portea has also brought in a lot of new technology to its practice. The first one is the remote monitoring equipment used at patients’ homes. Using the diagnostic tools the Portea medical practitioners capture patient data, which is then uploaded through smartphones to an EMR platform. The data analysis becomes quicker and get their health trends and action can be taken accordingly without having to waste time.

Within these span of two years apart from the funding which it has received from investors like Accel Partners and International Finance Corporation (IFC), Portea has recently acquired pharmaceutical distributor Medybiz Pharma to strengthen patient engagement and provide better care for patients of chronic diseases.
